The Kedah school calendar kicks off each year in January, blending national holidays with local state observances like Hari Hol and the Sultan's birthday. It typically breaks for a mid-year and year-end holiday, plus a week for Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, and Deepavali. Schools in the northern state adjust for the monsoon season, sometimes shifting term dates to avoid heavy rains.
